Share Your Garden with the Neighborhood

Saturday, August 9, 2025 • 10am-4pm

Have an edible garden—big or small, thriving or still in progress? We’d love for you to be part of this year’s Temescal Open Edible Garden Day. As a participating gardener, you’ll welcome visitors into your space to chat about what you’re growing, swap tips, and meet fellow neighbors.

You’ll only host for one part of the day—either a morning or afternoon slot—so you’ll still have time to explore other gardens yourself. We’ll reach out to coordinate timing once you’re signed up.

You don’t need a perfect garden, and you don’t need to be an expert. Whether you're showing off a lush summer harvest or walking someone through your first-year experiments, your space adds something valuable to the day.

Many gardeners also share what they’ve learned or made—like composting tips, seed-starting techniques, fermented hot sauce, pickles, or favorite recipes.

Location Requirement:
Gardens must be located within the Temescal boundaries:
📍 North: 51st Street
📍 South: 40th Street
📍 East: Broadway
📍 West: Martin Luther King Jr. Way

Sign-up Deadline:
Please register your garden by Monday, July 7th (extended from June 30th!)

Registration is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who signed up to open their garden to the neighborhood!

FAQs

What does it mean to open my garden for Temescal Open Gardens?

It means welcoming neighbors into your edible garden for one part of the day—either morning or afternoon—so they can explore, ask questions, and connect.

Does my garden have to be big or impressive to participate?

Not at all! Gardens of all sizes and stages are welcome. Whether you're growing in raised beds, pots, or a small patch, your experience matters.

Do I need to be home or present in my garden during the event?

Yes, if you garden in your side or back yard, we ask that you be present during your assigned time slot so visitors can meet you and learn from your experience. If your edible garden is in your front yard and you can’t be present that day, we’re happy to include it in the map.

What kinds of questions might visitors ask me about my garden?

Visitors may ask what you’re growing, how you got started, what’s worked (or hasn’t), and even what you enjoy making with your harvest—like pickles, hot sauce, fresh salads, or baked goods. It’s a chance to share your story.

Can I offer samples or share produce from my garden with visitors?

Yes! You're welcome to offer herbs, fruits, veggies, seeds, or samples of what you’ve made—totally optional, but often appreciated.

How should I prepare my garden for visitors?

No need for perfection. Just tidy up a bit, make pathways clear, and consider labeling a few plants. We'll provide a simple prep guide closer to the day.

Can I still participate if my garden is new or just getting started?

Absolutely. Sharing a garden in progress is just as valuable—your learning process can inspire others (and you might just learn a thing or two, from your visitors!).

Are there any safety, security, or privacy issues I should consider?

You’ll only be hosting for a short time, and you choose what parts of your space to share. We’ll provide tips to help you feel comfortable and confident. Please let us know if you have any concerns or questions.

What happens if it rains or if the weather is bad on event day?

We’ll keep an eye on the forecast and communicate any changes. A little drizzle won’t stop us, but we may reschedule for serious weather.

How long is the garden typically open for visitors?

Each garden is open for one time slot only—either the morning or afternoon. This way, you have the other half of the day free to tour other gardens. We’ll reach out to coordinate your slot.

Will my address or personal details be made public?

Only your street address will appear on the event map for attendees. No personal contact info will be shared.

Do I have to commit now, or can I confirm my participation closer to the event date?

You can express interest now and confirm by July 7th. We’ll stay in touch and work with you as the event approaches.

How do I sign up or register my garden to participate?

Just fill out our short sign-up form. We’ll follow up to schedule your time slot and ask a few fun questions—like what you're growing, why you garden, and what you love to make with your harvest.

Are there other opportunities to get involved beyond just the event day?

Yes! We host workshops, seed swaps, and casual gatherings throughout the year. There are lots of ways to stay involved and connected.

Who should I contact if I have more questions or need help preparing?

Email us at hello@temescalopengardens.org —we’re happy to help and excited to support you every step of the way!

What if I have accessibility concerns about my garden layout?

No problem—just let us know. We’ll reflect accessibility information on the map so visitors can plan accordingly.

Will I get to meet other garden hosts?

Yes! We encourage garden hosts to connect—either at pre-event meetups, through a group chat, or just by touring each other’s gardens during your off-slot. We also hope gardeners will join the after party, immediately following the close of the afternoon garden tour slot at 4 pm. Stay tuned for more info!

Can I bring someone to help me host?

Absolutely! Friends, partners, and family are welcome to join you during your time slot and help welcome visitors. You’re also encouraged to get creative—past gardens have featured everything from live music and art to crafting stations and garden-made snacks. Feel free to team up and make your space your own!
